Permanent Makeup for Eyebrows
I’m Lisa from Beautiful Ink, and I’ve been creating beautifully natural and styled eyebrows since August 2012. Originally based in Brighton, you’ll now find my private studio in Heaton Mersey, Stockport. You’ll find hundreds of satisfied clients allowing me to show you their tattooed eyebrows, just click on the galleries to see
Cosmetic tattoo, semi-permanent makeup, micropigmentation, permanent makeup, these are all the same treatment; using pigments that last several years rather than a lifetime

Eyebrows – My specialty
I specialise in creating missing, sparse or wonky brows, natural tattooed eyebrows, and those super fine styled eyebrows. You’ll see from my portfolio I don’t have one specific shape and style of eyebrow, I see what works for each clients face, based on what they like, and what suits best. I also don’t have any fear creating eyebrow shapes for those with non-existent eyebrows, and I know how not to scare them, by taking things easy, taking our time
I don’t recommend tattooing fashion shaped eyebrows, those thick and long eyebrows which go beyond the natural eyebrow brow shape. There is a lot of colour maintenance required (regular top ups) and if allowed to fade, the colour will remain for many years in a shape you may no longer want, fashions change
Saying that, if a client is over 40, I’ll tattoo whatever style she wants !
These brows, tattooed by someone else, were several years old and disliked from the start, being far too thick, dark and in a shape far too strong for her face. For this client we have started the long and expensive process of tattoo removal
Needing defining, missing, sparse, wonky, over plucked or just an unflattering natural shape, creating eyebrows is my speciality and working together we’ll create yours
Eyebrow tattoo first visit (2hrs) – New client – Reshaping / Creating / Correcting Eyebrows. Natural powdered effect and more solid brows
Further visits (top ups) – £100 within next 6 months, or £150 within next 6 months if changing original brief i.e now want eyebrows thicker or darker

Before and after tattooing
There’s often a confusion that the immediately after colour is what will stay, but it only stays dark for a few days (unless a dark or solid colour has been requested or the technician’s inexperienced)
The reason the colour is dark for a few days is obvious when you think about it. The area has just been tattooed with wet pigment, blood has been brought up into the skin as pigment was tattooed into the skin. Blood mixed with pigment will look dark
When I’ve finished tattooing, I remind my clients of the colour we used, making a little smear of it next to the tattoo. They can see under my bright light the difference, and feel confident the dark colour will not remain. More pigment also sheds during healing. The needle makes a hole, pigment falls in and a tube of colour happens. Colour that is not in deeply enough sheds during healing. For the lady above we added more colour during the top up visit, as the implanted colour had healed very subtly

Eyebrow Tattoo FAQs
What happens during the appointment
You are not left alone for 40 minutes with the numbing cream and a magazine, I use this time to discuss exactly the look you want to achieve. Then I spend 20/30/40 minutes drawing and confirming the shape with you, before tattooing when you are completely happy and aware of what happens, during the treatment, and after, the healing process. There are no surprises !
Working together we create your perfect eyebrow. Eyebrows can be very natural, or highly styled. No rush appointments, understanding any concerns.
If you generally pencil in your eyebrows, please come with them pencilled in as it helps me visualise your comfortable style, and suggest new ones. During the consultation we look through my book of semi permanent makeup before and after pictures, and any photos you’ve brought along. I start getting us talking the same language about the kind of brow you’d like to have, here’s where you say you want them looking natural, or a little more styled, naturally or not
I don’t have a fixed shape of brow I adapt to each person, so during the drawing of your semi permanent tattooed eyebrows I really do work with your preference, muscle movements, expressions, and your ideal brow. Eyebrow designing is a part of an eyebrow tattoo booking, working together we create and perfect the eyebrow shape to be tattooed. This is not a quick process, 30/40 minutes is normal to get the right shape for you. I feel one of my and Beautiful Inks strengths when offering clients semi permanent makeup, is the time and care we spend creating your unique brow line
We discuss at length the best colour for you, and to be honest, if the colour you walk out with is perfect, it will actually heal too light. It should be noted that being too cautious with colour, or wanting to change the shape or brief between visits, can mean extra visits are required. You will always be advised fully during your appointment, and notes taken
The cosmetic tattooing process is surprisingly the easiest for you, numbing creams help greatly, tho it has to be said, I’m very gentle in my technique. You get to lay on a comfy treatment couch, and the only bit that may bother is when I ask you to sit up a few times so I can check the shape with gravity doing it’s thing
Full aftercare advice, a written sheet and ointment are given. After a month we contact each other to check how the pigment healed, and see if you need to arrange a top up visit now, or anytime within the next 6 months
Will I need to shave off my existing eyebrows ?
Not at all, it’s good to see the natural flow and shape of eyebrow hair when it’s still in place. If your brows are very ‘wild’ in shape you may want to have them threaded or waxed into a better idea of the shape you’re looking a few days before your treatment, although I am quite happy to tattoo through the wildest of brows. Hair removal is not a part of my service. Having sparse or a missing brow is also not a problem in creating the perfect brow shape for you.
I’ve heard about the horrid scabbing and pain with eyebrow treatments, will I get this ?
With some of the older cosmetic tattoo machines, and the cheaper ones today, the action of implanting pigment is quite traumatic to the skin, scratching away until the pigment finally stays. Causing skin trauma like this leads to the body producing lymph fluid, which settles into a scab. Beautiful Ink use highly advanced digital machines which cause minimal skin trauma, full aftercare advice is given in how to minimise any scabbing, so a mild shedding of the healed surface layer is really all that can happen. During the tattooing process Beautiful Ink use numbing creams which dramatically reduced any expected pain, to the point where the needle vibration can actually become relaxing !
I’m worried my eyebrows will be too dark ?
For the first few days they will be, this is until the first shedding of healing reveals the remaining implanted colour. It’s best to start off too light and add further colour on your second top up visit, than starting off too dark, so have no fear of ending up with darker brows than you intend
Will I be able to see my new eyebrow shape before you implant the pigment ?
Yes of course, eyebrow design is a part of this booking. Your perfect brow shape will be hand drawn on your face, and we adjust it to your own personal style, arching, flattening, fattening, slimming, until both brows are symmetrical and are a shape you’re pleased with. The pencilling in will be quite dark and stark to look at, but this is only a shape guide for me to work within. It’s normal for this measuring and drawing of your brows to take 20/30/40 minutes, it’s not a stage to rush
Why is the pigment semi permanent ?
Semi permanent makeup is also called Micropigmentation as it uses micro pigments. Because they lack size, they also lack density of colour, so the colour fades quicker. Were the pigment molecules bigger, the colour would be more dense and more permanent, just like normal tattoo pigment.
How long will a semi permanent eyebrow tattoo last ?
After achieving your desired result, you should expect to do annual top ups to keep the colour looking fresh. Without further top ups the colour will fade away, but some may remain for many months or years. This is best understood by comparing it to hair colouring. When letting hair colouring fade, the colour the hair fades to cannot be predicted nor how long it takes to disappear, if at all. For this reason it is so important to have someone you trust, and whose work you have seen, perform any cosmetic tattooing on your face
