How old before you can treat ?

Age of client – Over 18 only

Flat, loose and sunken scars – Can be treated after 3 months.  I carry out an initial assessment before offering treatment, for some scars I may require approval from an external source i.e consultant, doctor, counsellor

Raised scars – Can be treated after 12 months (hypertrophic and inactive keloid scars)

Old scars – There is no time limit to scars responding to treatment, so 10+ year old scars can still be improved

Freshly healed wounds – I offer scar prevention products and methods

Expected results for scars

Stretch and loose scars – Dry tattooing causes new collagen growth to this thinned and stretched tissue, helping to create firmer skin

Mis-coloured scar tissue – Purple and brown scars achieve a more natural tone, white scars begin to naturally repigment.   No pigment is used, shades of brown and red scars are allowed to gently re-heal, and pigmentation cells usually return to normal action

Relaxation of tight scar tissue – Dry tattooing breaks up the fibres of tight scar tissue allowing a much larger range of movement. This treatment has been exceptionally successful on scars caused by burns and operations

Atrophic and Hypertropic scars are smoothed – Dry tattooing breaks up the fibrous scar tissue, so new collagen growth can smooth and repair the damaged skin

Active and Inactive Keloid Scars – Active keloid scars cannot be treated. Inactive keloid scars can be treated with discretion. Not all raised scars are keloid.  Active keloid scars grow, cause pain, itching and numbness. Inactive keloid scars do not grow and their colour is pinkish or normal skin colour

Dry Tattooing V Laser Treatment

Laser is essentially a liquid burn of the lower layers of skin.  Laser can firm thin and loose tissue scars and remove the surface layers of a raised scar, but Dry Tattooing will always break up tight and hard scar tissue in a far more gentle manner, with less trauma and less aftercare of damaged laser burnt skin.

Dry Tattooing causes and breaks down collagen from the surface to the deep layers,  so new melanin cells are also formed, meaning the return of natural pigmentation to the area.  With laser there will be no return of melanin pigmentation to the area, so the mark will remain mis-coloured or light and shiny.

Skin Colour

Dry Tattooing works for all skin colours and is very successful on darker skins, especially when helping to normalise dark or light coloured scars.   Clients prone to hyper-pigmentation must purchase Laser Azu-Repair as an additional aftercare product, 15ml costs £22.95, 100ml £64.95.  This product helps prevent post treatment hyper-pigmentation

Skin Camouflage Makeup

Perhaps you don’t feel ready or suitable for skin treatments, or during Dry Tattooing treatments you may want to begin showing a previously hidden area, I offer Camouflage Makeup Consultations

Tattooing (body art) over scars

Most tattooists recommend you don’t tattoo over scars. However after 1, 2 or 3 dry tattooing sessions, depending on the type of scar, the skin begins to respond more normally.  Scars don’t always swell, but pigment doesn’t implant easily or cleanly, and if it does the colour usually heals differently.  After dry tattooing the scar tissue improves, it begins to smooth and becomes less noticeable.  After a few dry tattooing sessions scars become more suitable to tattoo

Number of sessions needed and how long in between sessions

Expect to need 3 sessions to give the best result.  I give a 20% discount for a pre-paid course of 3 sessions, or you can pay each session without the discount (prices below photos)

I’ve found the best results are achieved when the second session is taken 4 to 6 weeks after the first, and the last session taken 6 to 8 weeks later.  This is gentle and controlled stimulation, allowing healing and collagen growth before stimulating again.  Leaving too long between sessions allows the skin to fully settle before being stimulated again

After 3 sessions, allow the area to fully settle and develop for a period of 6 months before considering more treatments.  Results will be developing for up to a year !

RegimA Skin TreatmentsLarge Areas of Scarring

For most accident and operation scars Dry Tattooing is the treatment of choice, but for large areas of burns or skin grafts, combining RégimA Peel & Heal and Dry Tattooing could be more suitable

Self Injury Scar ReductionBefore – 5+ year old Self Injury scars.  Treatment area size 1.5 hands (soft, thin scars), £250 per session or £600 for a course of 3.

Self Injury Scar ReductionImmediately after first treatment – 5+ year old Self Injury scars. Treatment area size 1.5 hands (soft, thin scars), £250 per session or £600 for a course of 3. Pain factor, during the treatment my client found this area a bit twitchy, but not really painful. She reported her arm was a little painful the next day, and was very itchy, itchy is good, new life into the area.

Effective numbing creams are used before and during treatment

Self Injury Scar ReductionSix weeks after first session on 5+ year old Self Injury scars. Scars look whiter as they are now firmer and smoother. Gentle sun exposure will help the new tissue to naturally re-pigment over the coming months and the scar will blur into the surrounding skin. Second treatment was carried out

Self Injury Scars, Before & After Treatment (2)Before – 6 year old Self Injury Scars on Upper Arm.  Treatment area size 2 hands (soft, thin scars), one on each size. £300 per session or £720 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported.

Selt Injury Scar Treatment (2)Immediately after first visit – 6 year old Self Injury Scars on Upper Arm.  Treatment area size 2 hands (soft, thin scars), one on each size. £300 per session or £720 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported.

Self Injury Scars, Before & After Treatment (1)After first session – 6 year old Self Injury Scars on Upper Arm.  Treatment area size 2 hands (soft, thin scars), one on each size. £300 per session or £720 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported

Here you can really see the difference gentle sun exposure has on the treated scars.  Second treatment carried out

Selt Injury Scar Treatment (1)Immediatedly after second treatment – 6 year old Self Injury Scars on Upper Arm.  Treatment area size 2 hands (soft, thin scars), one on each size. £300 per session or £720 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported.

Note how the scar responds differently after the second treatment, this is because new skin has developed within the scar

Self Injury Scar Treatment Before & AfterBefore & After First Visit – 6 year old Self Injury scars – Initial results after 5 weeks of healing and development

Three treatments are recommended over a period of 3 months, then leave the area to settle and develop over the coming months. Although positive changes are seen after one treatment, full results take several months to develop, just like the scar or stretch mark initially did

Effective numbing creams are used before and during treatments

Arm Lift Surgery Brachioplasty Scars ReductionBefore – Arm lift surgery (Brachioplasty) scar reduction.  Treatment area size 2 hands (both sides)(soft, wide scars). £400 per session or £960 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported
Arm Lift Surgery Brachioplasty Scars ReductionImmediately after first session – Arm lift surgery (Brachioplasty) scar reduction. Treatment area size 2 hands (both sides)(soft, wide scars). £400 per session or £960 for course of 3. Pain factor, none reported
Whilst the above photo does look alarming, it has to be remembered that scar tissue behaves very differently to normal tissue.  This level of redness was achieved by gentle stimulation as in places the scar was very thin.  On the other arm the scarring was thicker.  Tissue needs to grow and colour normalise, 6 weeks have been recommended before my client returns for her second and later third treatment.
Client update one month later: Already a lot smoother and much of scar now pink.  Booking next session after summer as finally enjoing wearing short sleeved tops !  (Ideally should re-visit after 4 to 6 weeks to continue scar stimulation, but my client is happy and that’s ultimately what matters)
